California Designer assembles her own permit free Bunkie

Landscape designer and hobby artist Erin Werner was looking for a functional home office she could build herself that would match the aesthetic of her then under construction house without triggering a change to her existing building permit.

After a few months comparing different products from several suppliers, Werner landed on purchasing the Bunkie Company’s Monarch model.

“The first thing that really drew my attention to The Bunkie Company was the beautiful design,” Werner says. “I love how modern it is and the glass wall is stunning. I also wanted to purchase something modular since I wanted to build it mostly by myself.”

Like the flat packed furniture that inspires our designs, all of our Bunkies arrive at your door ready to assemble. All you need are common tools, a little know-how, and a willingness to dive in and get building.*

Indeed, our representatives stand ready to consult with you on every aspect of your Bunkie build. That means we can connect you to reliable contractors in your area, or, if you wish to build your unit yourself, we can answer whatever questions arise along the way.

“The Bunkie Company has been great to work with from start to finish,” Werner says. “I love the final product and it’s held up perfectly so far. I live at the top of a ridge and we get some intense wind and rain and it’s never been a problem for the Bunkie.”

Erin posted her finished Bunkie on Instagram (@erinbwerner), which resulted in several people reaching out to ask her about her build. “My answer to them,” she says, “is always that I am incredibly happy with how it performs and how it looks. It looks perfect with my very modern style home, but also looks completely at home in a natural meadow under an ancient oak where it sits.”

Asked if she thinks other people curious about purchasing a Bunkie of their own should take the leap, Erin answered: “Go for it, you won’t be disappointed!

*Caveat: We recommend assessing your building skills honestly. Hiring a professional builder may be the better decision depending on your abilities. We also recommend hiring a professional to help construct your Bunkie’s foundation.
