  • What to Expect

    Step 1. Logistics

    • Review shipping documents
    • Work with us to organize shipping
    • Delivery to warehouse
    • Delivery from warehouse to site
    • Ontario & Quebec delivery direct to site

    Step 2. Know Your Shipment

    Wood Frame

The wood structural frame is delivered on 4’ wide pallets up to 13’ long. They are stacked, strapped and braced for transportation. Tip: Keep the large pallet for on site organization during the build. Only long distance deliveries are plastic wrapped for additional protection.

    Batt Insulation

Batt insulation is compressed at the factory and strapped to 4’ x 4’ pallets no more then 8-9 high at a time. Larger models may require additional batts attached to different shipping pallets to save space.

    Glass Crate

Each curtain wall is packed by our supplier in custom crates 4’ wide and a maximum of 12’ long. The glass is placed inside the aluminum frame for compact and safest transportation. We often attach different materials to these crates to save space in the truck. Local deliveries are sent directly from our supplier.

    Interior Panels + Rigid Foam

Each interior panel kit is packed on a 4’ x 8’ pallet with thin foam sheets between each piece. They are then trapped and wrapped in a clear protective layer. We often add the rigid foam bundles on top of this type of pallet.

    Metal Cladding

All standing seam cladding kits are packed by our supplier in 4’ wide by up to 14’ long crates. They contain all parts necessary to install cladding including screws, clips and adhesive. They can be unloaded by hand when arriving on site.

    Modular Furniture

Furniture is packed in custom made boxes and strapped together in groups of 6 cabinets. These are sensitive to weather so store indoors until the Bunkie is weather tight. Be careful when opening boxes with knives and note orientation when removing the cardboard.

    Bunkie Loading Examples

Above are some great examples of what the Bunkies look like during shipping. Most deliveries arrive to site by 26’ straight truck and can be unloaded by 2-3 people in 1-2 hours depending on site conditions. Every pallet or crate has a label to keep track of contents being shipped.

Step 3. How To Organize On Site

    • Store weather sensitive items indoors or under tarps
    • Use the large pallets to keep interior panels, glass panes and metal cladding off the ground

  • It's been a busy winter. One client is wrapping up and another is working away, it's the one pictured in this post. What makes this one so special you ask?! Why, it's the first of its kind.... read 👇

This past summer, us humble Bunkie folks connected with industry leading passive home builder, Ben and Chris, from @evolvebuildersgroup. It was quickly apparent we share a vision of sustainably-minded structures that pay homage to the past and look to the future. So what does that mean?

Over the next month we'll share more about where we see the future of home building. The Bunkie pictured is a part of that beginning. It's the first permitted digitally fabricated Bunkie in Canada. Not an ADU (more to come on that) but a 175 sqft flexible space that serves many daily purposes and it will take several posts to unravel 😉

Stay tuned on our collaborative efforts and what we will create in our own way towards the future of home building.

  • Client Feature: Zack's Highland

When Zack decided he needed a dedicated home office, he wasn’t looking for something temporary or improvised. He wanted a space that felt professional, intentional, and built to last.

Rather than renovating or sacrificing living space, Zack chose a Bunkie.

“It was about finding a solution that expanded our house without actually expanding the house,” he says. “There just wasn’t another way to do this that made sense.

Your Office, Without Leaving Home 💼

Working from the kitchen table works, until it doesn’t 🙃

A Bunkie office creates both physical and psychological separation from the main house. Close enough for a quick coffee, far enough that your brain understands the shift. This is where work happens now.
